Croatian holiday 'set to become top choice for golfers'

Golf may be starting to emerge as one of the main reasons to take a Croatian holiday, with the entire Balkans region in the midst of redesigning itself as a top location for the sport.

Croatia is "leading the pack" when it comes to golf developments in the Balkans, according to Balkans.com.

Construction has started on numerous projects and there are plans for several other "world-class" facilities which, when combined with a stay at a Croatian villa, could play host to the dream golfing holiday.

The arrival of golfers could make Croatian holidays significantly more popular all year round - with the website suggesting that golfers tend to spend more than average tourists and are often older, meaning they can travel outside of traditional breaks in the calendar.

Golf Park Dubrovnik is the largest planned development in Croatia, with work expected to start on it as early as February 2011.

Keen golfers may wish to visit the area to play on some of the finest courses along the Adriatic coast while also spending time in the nearby historic city which was recently named the second most romantic city in Europe by the Guardian.
