Dubrovnik holiday could be most enjoyable during carnival
27 November 2009Tourists considering a holiday in Dubrovnik may want to mark a space in their diaries for February when the historic and flamboyant carnival comes to town.
Dubrovnik Carnival has been running since the 14th century - with many customs and traditions from its early years still evident in the current event, reveals the Whatsonwhen website.
Ancient rituals still enjoyed include the people from surrounding areas parading through the streets of the city in garish costumes while trumpeters and drummers follow.
There are also jousting competitions taking place, where riders attempt to secure a silver ring tied to the tail of a fellow fighters' horse, the online tourist information provider explains.
Some people may wish to book up a Dubrovnik apartment now to avoid disappointment later as rooms are sure to be at a premium during the carnival.
Dubrovnik is often proclaimed as a particularly beautiful part of the Adriatic coastline, with its ancient walls, which still surround the city, a particular highlight for many tourists.
