Lace festival 'set to entertain Croatian holidaymakers'
08 February 2010Fans of lace hoping to enjoy one of the industry's leading festivals may wish to start booking flights, travel insurance and a Croatian villa.
The Austrian Embassy has confirmed it will sponsor the Festival of Lace on the island of Pag in the Balkan country, due to take place in June, reports the Croatian Times.
It could be the ideal exhibition for tourists planning a Croatian holiday this summer who are looking for fun events to break up time on Pag's sandy shores and cobbled streets.
Lace from Pag is one of Croatia's most famous exports and carries with it a strong reputation around the world.
The embassy decided to sponsor the festival after learning that Pag lace was used in Vienna courtrooms for more than 500 years, the newspaper suggests.
Pag is also well known for its production of wine, oil and fruit - all of which can be sampled by those who book a Croatian holiday in the area.
