Travellers urged to 'experience air of magic in Zagreb'

The words of a travel writer could persuade people mulling over their next holiday destination to book a Croatian holiday in the historic capital Zagreb, where there is "something for everyone".

Adela Markovic, writing for the tourist website Guide2Croatia, suggested that winter could be the best time of the year to experience the "magic" of Zagreb.

She wrote: "However you decide to spend your holiday time in Zagreb you will enjoy a warm welcome and you will discover the variety of things this city offers. The experience of winter in Zagreb is something you cannot miss."

Among the highlights of a festive trip to the city is its wealth of shopping areas - headed by brand new complex West Gate.

There is also a rich musical culture in Zagreb, with everything from opera to house to pop on offer before December 25th.

Ms Markovic also advised visitors who have worked up an appetite while browsing the famous museums and galleries to try out specialist Croatian food - the most popular of which is strukle.

Legendary classical singer Jose Carreras is due to perform in Zagreb on December 19th - which could be perfect for those thinking of a pre-Christmas Croatian break.
