Accommodation Croatia: International interest driving property growth

International business investment in Croatia is driving the country's property boost, it has been suggested.

Real estate pundit Simon Walker noted that emerging markets in eastern Europe are just a few of those benefiting from foreign interest worldwide.

Mr Walker, sales director for property portal Off Plan Property, explained that markets like Croatia attract investors because of the "stability and diversity" their business brings to the property market.

"If companies are investing into a country for whatever reason, bringing commerce into the country, then businesses will grow… And they all need to live somewhere," he remarked.

"They like to follow the big boys around as far as foreign investment into the country, infrastructure, commerce et cetera [goes]," he added, suggesting that this trend "fires" the property industry.

Commentators have also alluded to Croatia's status as a candidate for European Union membership as an indicator of future prosperity in its tourism, travel and property sectors.

The popularity of villas and other properties in Croatia recently marked further growth as a leading international consultant revealed record business in the country.

Colliers International Croatia, which has bases in Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Split, used the occasion to confirm that international interest in Croatian investments "remains strong".
