Ancient castle reopens after restoration

The famous Veliki Tabor castle, in northern Croatia has reopened after extensive restoration work, the Croatian National Tourist Board has announced.
A fortified hilltop since the 12th century, Veliki Tabor has been given a high Unesco classification as one of the best-preserved examples of medieval fortress architecture in Croatia.
Its thick walls and turrets are a romantic sight both in summer and under a blanket of snow in winter.
The pentagonal tower was built in the 12th century, while the semicircular towers were added in the 15th and 16th centuries. Finally the gateway and entry area were completed around 1820.
Located in the county of Desinic - Krapina-Zagorje, north of Zagreb and near the Slovenian border, the castle is a perfect day trip from your villa in Croatia
There is a museum inside the castle displaying antique medieval weapons and tools.
