Animal welfare initiative embraced in Croatia

Villa and apartment renters in Croatia are lined up to be part of a new animal rights campaign.

The eastern European holiday mecca is one of a number of countries embracing a new initiative from two leading UK animal welfare charities.

Representatives from the Marchig Animal Welfare Trust and the Worldwide Veterinary Service followed their successful Croatian trip with inspired visits to Spain and Ukraine, with follow-up trips on the horizon.

They are aiming to establish programmes dedicated to the welfare of the countries' animals, including the provision of veterinary support in Croatia and other destinations where residents and tourists alike oppose animal mistreatment.

Luke Gamble, the founder and chief executive of the Worldwide Veterinary Service, said the partnership "will make a difference" in Croatia and beyond.

"By combining our strengths, the Marchig/WVS Support teams will provide a unique and much-needed resource to numerous animal welfare organisations and charities around the world," he concluded.

Croatia's growing number of tourists, holidaymakers and villa owners also led officials to open a "smashing" new theme park recently.

According to Ananova, Belica's star attraction will be dedicated to the potato, featuring potato-plant flower beds, a potato-themed children's play area and plaques describing various spud types.ADNFCR-1197-ID-18474216-ADNFCR
