Anti-smoking legislation 'to be introduced in Croatia'

Croatia has moved a step closer to introducing anti-smoking laws similar to those in other European countries, it has been revealed.

According to Associated French Press, the government is to bring forward a bill in parliament which should bring it in line with European Union standards.

Under the proposals, smoking will be banned inside pubs but still allowed on terraces, while restaurants will be given the option of implementing rooms for people to have a puff, although it will be prohibited in areas where food and drinks are served.

In addition, it is reported the legislation will cover educational establishments, healthcare buildings and work places.

Darko Milinovic, the Croatian health minister, told the news agency: "With the new law, we want to changes people's [smoking] habit and protect non-smokers."

According to a travel guide on wordtravels.com, visitors to Croatia can receive free emergency medical care with a European Health Insurance Card.
