Autumn travellers 'should head to Zagreb'
11 September 2008
Zagreb is an ideal destination for an autumn city break, especially as it can be explored on foot, according to a travel article.
Petar Preradovic Square is said to be the heart of the Croatian capital to locals and is a good place for celebrity-spotting, according to the Times.
The centre of Zagreb is surrounded by a "green horseshoe" of parks, creating an "intriguing blend" of busy squares and leafier areas.
According to the article, the upper town district of Gradec - reached by a short funicular ride - contrasts sharply with the "hustle and bustle" of the streets below.
Highlights of this part of the city are said to include a 13th century Lotrascak tower, which fires a cannon at noon every day, and the Stone Gate, the last remaining entrance to Gradec.
Meanwhile, Javno.com revealed yesterday that Zagreb is to host a beer festival similar to the famous Oktoberfest staged in Munich to attract visitors to the city.
