17 June 2008
Croatian television channel HRT is set to take on a range of programmes from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) after the two agreed a major deal, it has been revealed.
The deal is said to be the biggest ever programming deal the BBC has completed in Croatia and will cover over 300 hours of drama and factual content, C21 Media reports.
Over 51 hours of natural history programming including Expedition Guyana, Wild China and Yellowstone Tales will join local versions of BBC programmes like Just the Two of Us and The Weakest Link in being shown on Croatian television.
Christina Muller, territory manager for Eastern European TV sales at BBC Worldwide, said the corporation has been working closely with HRT for "a number of years" to make deals happen.
"This has led to a rapid strengthening of our relationship," she added.
BBC Television presenter Adrian Chiles has become well known for his Croatian ancestry in the UK recently.
Among his recent expeditions for the broadcaster, the Match of the Day 2 host has visited his aunt in Zagreb and travelled with Croatian supporters on their way to the European Championships from the city.
