Bilic names Croatia Euro 2008 squad
06 May 2008
Only six defenders have been announced in the Croatia squad selected by Slaven Bilic's for this years Euro 2008 football championship.
According to the Independent, however, a number of the nine midfielders in the 23-man pool can play in wing back positions.
The shortage of defenders is one of few surprises, with Bosko Balaban excluded for the finals tournament and the inclusion of two youngsters on standby.
Having qualified ahead of England, Bilic said the goal is now to qualify beyond the group stage at the championship.
"This team has a lot of potential and it will get even better in the future," he continued. "With a bit of luck we can do very well in the European Championship".
Bilic's announcement of his squad comes after it was revealed he has signed a new two-year extension to his contract worth 1.2 million kuna (£131,000) per year.
It should dispel speculation which had been linking the coach to a move to the English Premier League.
