Book-lovers flock to European literature fair in Istria

Literature-lovers are enjoying a special book fair over the coming weeks in the region of Istria, in northern Croatian.

Running until December 15th, the largest book fair in Croatia will be held in a historic building in the town of Pula.

It will promote both Croatian and wider European publishing, selling books at reduced prices.

There will also be a number of events for book-lovers, including readings, meetings with authors at a special breakfast, concerts, stage and video presentations, and exhibitions.

Pula is the largest town on the Istrian peninsula and a villa in Istria is the perfect base for exploring both the town and the 190 kilometres of beautiful coastline.

Over 3,000 years old, Pula is rich in history, with several examples of Roman architecture including the famous amphitheatre.

The first century BC triumphal arch of the Sergi, Hercules' Gate, the Arena, a small Roman theatre and the ancient temple of Augustus can all be found near the pleasant town square.
