CSI Croatia: 'Not like the TV show'

Croatia's CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) team is gearing up to celebrate its 55th anniversary.
The Zagreb-based organisation – whose representatives use computer equipment they maintain is "nowhere near" as advanced as that featured in the Emmy-winning TV series – is tasked with intercepting fake tourist currency, among many other duties.
News provider Javno noted that Croatia's team of forensic experts - based at the Ivan Vucetic institute in Zagreb's Ilica Street – stands alongside Europe's other forensic organisations in terms of its knowledge and professionalism.
"The centre was named after Ivan Vucetic, who emigrated to Argentina in 1884 and was the first person to establish a systematic ten-finger fingerprint collection that is today used by the whole of Latin America," explained the publication's website.
It went on to point out that the Croatian CSI workers process twice as many individual traces as their European colleagues every year, and three times as many as their more exposed US counterparts.
The CSI series, which introduced the world to the concept of recovering fingerprints from the inside of a glove, is known for showcasing forensic gadgets and occasionally utilising yet-to-be-invented technology.
