Croatia is among the 50 most competitive countries in the world, it has been revealed.
The 2008 Competitiveness Yearbook has been published by the Switzerland-based International Institute for Management Development (IMD) and reveals Croatia is ranked in 29th place, reports Javno.
It is an improvement of four places on the previous year in the table, which assesses competitiveness by efficiency of government, the business sector, general economic results and infrastructure.
Darko Marinac, president of the National Council for Competitiveness, told the Croatian news provider the position was realistic but must not be accepted due to the superior performance of Bulgaria and Romania.
He explained: "This is the company we have to compare ourselves with if we want to be an equal EU member in two years time."
The IMD said economic and business power is shifting to new countries.
Countries like France, Italy and Turkey could lose their standing in world competitiveness if their performance does not improve, it was also revealed.
