Cravat wearers recommended to 'tie-in trip to Zadar when visiting Croatia'
05 September 2008
Zadar is the place to head for the most "prestigious sellers" of Croatian neckties, it has been claimed.
Marijana Janjic, a spokeswoman for the Croatian National Tourist Office in New York, told the Dallas Morning News the city hosts a number of brand boutiques.
The newspaper revealed Croatia is the birthplace of the modern necktie, although it can be difficult to find these cravats elsewhere in the country.
However, the publication did manage to come across such a store in Split, which even had a bronze door handle crafted into the shape of a necktie.
A clerk in the shop is said to have pointed to a small red neckerchief then a postcard of a 17th century Croatian wearing the garment, illustrating the ties the cravat has in the country's history.
In other Croatian fashion news, some of the country's most famous designers presented their summer collections on the island of Hvar earlier this year.
