Croatia Airlines flying high despite cheap airlines moving in

Croatia Airlines is still going strong, despite the increase in competition offered from airlines flying to Croatia, it has been reported.

In 2006 the market was blown wide open after an agreement was reached with the EU that all airlines based within the EU would be able to fly to Croatia.

However Croatia Airlines still has 36 per cent of the market share, reports Balkan Insight.

Government figures have shown that low-cost airlines are starting to increase their business as the country becomes more popular with holidaymakers.

Zelimir Kramaric, assistant minister for tourism in Croatia, said: "We see an increase last year of 45 per cent in combined passenger volumes for low-cost carriers and 31 per cent in their number of flights."

Srecko Simunovic, executive director of marketing at Croatia Airlines said: "It is logical that the arrival of any company takes away part of the cake, but I personally think that this market is big enough for everyone."

EasyJet currently offers flight to Split in Croatia from London Gatwick.
