Croatia a 'sought-after' holiday destination

A trip to Croatia is among this year's most-wanted holiday packages, according to financial giant American Express.
Included in the firm's Going Once initiative this year is a five-night stay at Le Meridien Lav Hotel and Villa Argentina in Dubrovnik, featuring a tour of the city's Unesco World Heritage sites and a walk through Diocletian's Palace in Split.
"Our goal with Going Once is to provide card members with the vacation destinations they most desire at amazing prices," explained Luke Gebb, vice-president of merchant marketing at American Express.
"This year, through extensive research, we determined the most sought-after vacation destinations," he added, pointing out that Croatia is top of the list for an increasing number of people in 2008.
During a ten-day period in February, his firm's customers can avail of holiday package prices which drop every 20 minutes after they appear on the Going Once website.
Northern Croatia's famous Veliki Tabor castle which has Unesco classification as one of the best-preserved examples of medieval fortress architecture on the Adriatic - recently re-opened after extensive restoration work.
The Croatian Tourist Board has singled it out as a key point of interest for both tourists and villa owners in Croatia.
