Croatia 'benefits from last minute British holiday booking'
15 July 2008
British tourists are waiting until the last minute to book their holidays, which is proving beneficial for Croatia.
UK holidaymakers are looking to escape the country for their summer holidays due to poor weather and are increasingly seeking locations outside of the eurozone due to budget constraints, according to lastminute.com.
As a result, Eqypt, Turkey and Tunisia have all performed well, while Croatia has seen a 150 per cent increase in bookings.
John Bevan, managing director of lastminute.com, said British customers are heading to destinations where their pounds will go furthest and bargains are available.
He added: "We are seeing a strong interest in destinations outside the euro, whether these are short or long haul. We are also noticing that Britons are trying to find ways to cut corners by spreading short breaks throughout the summer as well as throughout the year."
It was revealed recently that British holidaymakers are particularly looking to vacation to Europe's sandy beaches.
Abbey Savings found they are also looking for locations which will have as few of their compatriots as possible.
