Croatia celebrates Earth Day

Countries in the Balkans are celebrating Earth Day with a series of events today, including Croatia.
In Croatia there will be ecological campaigns and peaceful protests to mark the day which aims to highlight environmental matters.
The Sunce Association, from Split, will be handing out textile shopping bags in various locations across the city in order to prevent the use of plastic shopping bags.
Lectures, documentary film screenings and roundtable discussions will also be held in order to raise the issues of the environment in Croatia, and methods to keep the country beautiful in order to attract more people to the country will be suggested.
There is also a series of events being planned in Montenegro today, including a campaign against plastic bags planned there as well.
Earth Day was established in 1969 by a US Senator called Gaylord Nelson at a conference in Seattle, Washington with the aim of putting the environment onto the national agenda.
