Croatia gets Austria and Greece's EU backing
07 July 2008
Austria and Greece are keen to see Croatia join the European Union, as this may send a strong message to other countries in the region, it has been suggested.
Javno.com reports Greek president Karolos Papoulias met with Berd Wrabetz, foreign policy advisor to the Austrian chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer, last week to discuss the issue.
Mr Wrabetz said the two countries want to see Croatia achieve membership soon as this will send a "positive signal" to the rest of the region.
The Greek president said that the countries have to keep their promise on Croatia's EU accession, the news provider states.
In related news, earlier this week it was announced that flights between Serbia and Croatia would be operated for the first time since the early 1990s.
