14 May 2008
The MEDIA programme, which Croatia became the first candidate country to join, has helped fund the representation of 14 films at this year's Cannes International Film Festival.
Croatian minister of culture Bozo Biskupic will be among 12 European ministers invited to an audiovisual policy meeting called by festival president Gilles Jacob.
International film will be discussed at the event, which will be staged as part of a Europe Day at Cannes.
Viviane Reding, European commissioner for Information Society and the Media, said European films will feature prominently at the festival as they continued to face "important challenges".
She added: "During Europe Day at Cannes, we will therefore explore ways to forge worldwide partnerships based on cooperation and reciprocity to more actively promote co-production and distribution of films."
Mr Biskupic's visit to Cannes comes ahead of the Libertas film festival which takes place in Dubrovnik from June 27th.
It is set to showcase Croatian cinema, while also showing premieres from across Europe and having a special focus on Cuban film.
