Croatia 'popular with Austrians'
21 February 2008
The popularity of villas and apartments in Croatia has led to a surge in the number of visitors from Austria, it has emerged.
According to the latter country's Wiener Zeitung publication, tourism research institute IFT found that the eastern European mecca attracted one in ten of Austria's discerning culture seekers last year.
Surpassing the number who went to Spain, the figures have led to speculation that more overseas property investors will head across the Adriatic instead of "traditional" destinations.
Experts note that a strong tourist trade reflects favourably on a country's rental market a pertinent observation in relation to Croatia.
Further supporting analysts' predictions, IFT's data indicated that 63 per cent of Austrian tourists will not go beyond Europe on their travels this year.
Separate research earlier this month also singled out Croatia as a popular location for both British property buyers and villa renters.
In addition, the country's national tourist office noted that better access from UK airports is contributing to Croatia's rise in popularity among travellers.
