Croatia shines in world tourism poll

Croatia is "climbing the ladder" of world tourism at an impressive rate, it has emerged.

In the latest research carried out by Geneva-based business foundation the World Economic Forum, the eastern European mecca reached number 34 in a list featuring 130 countries - four places higher than last year.

Judges were particularly impressed by Croatia in the 'human resources' and 'cultural and national resources' categories, reports Javno.

Darko Marinac, president of the country's national competitiveness council, looked towards the future as he told the publication the poll had highlighted Croatia's "greatest advantages" in the tourist sector.

"Sustainable development of tourism as a significant generator of the overall economic activity must be one of the priorities of our economic policy, where only good and tight cooperation between the public and private sectors can yield results," he remarked.

As Croatia continues to surge in popularity among culture seekers, scientists recently suggested that nature could contribute to an even greater boom.

They discovered a fault line running under the Adriatic, which they claimed is "actively building" more of the Dalmatian islands and Dinaride mountains. ADNFCR-1197-ID-18500439-ADNFCR
