Croatia talent headed for Irish festival

This week saw entertainers from Croatia prepare to travel across Europe to the Northern Irish capital, where they will perform at the Belfast Children's Festival.

Spread over ten days beginning on May 23rd, the event will see Croatia's talent joined by performers from Spain and Denmark, as well as local artists.

Festival director Ali FitzGibbon told the province's News Letter that "standout events" include a production of Sinbad which takes place in a swimming pool, a children-friendly adaptation of Beowulf and The Urban Arts Akidemy, which lets audiences try activities from DJing to fashion design.

"I'm also excited about the show Parachutes - a Croatian production which is quite unusual but also very funny," she remarked.

According to Ms FitzGibbon, the festival is an opportunity to "inspire and encourage" children to step outside of the everyday and use their imaginations to develop their creative skills.

In another recent cultural crossover between Croatia and Ireland, 'Mr Eurovision' Johnny Logan entertained the audience at this year's Dora, an annual pop festival held to decide the eastern European country's entrant for the song contest.

After performing some of his most popular tunes at the Opatija bash, the three-time contest winner joked with fans and concluded by thanking them in Croatian.
