Croatia the 'leading tourist destination in the Mediterranean'
21 December 2007
Croatia is probably "the leading tourist destination in the Mediterranean", according to property investment information website Croatiasun.com.
Managing director Paul Keppler said that tourism levels in Croatia are "increasing dramatically" and Dubrovnik in particular has seen a year-on-year increase in tourist numbers of around 40 per cent.
"It's made great progress over the last ten years, increasing dramatically in the tourism levels here, which means if its increasing in vocational tourism then that has a natural follow-on into residential tourism and into the property market," he commented.
According to recent Croatian Bureau of Statistics figures, more people plan their Croatian holidays independently and travel there individually.
In the first nine months of 2007 there were ten per cent more tourists than for the same period the previous year, with 6.8 million individual tourists visiting.
Only 3.4 million tourists arrived through travel agency tours.
Overnight stays were also up, according to the bureau with an eight per cent increase.
