Croatia to embrace student scholarship scheme
06 March 2008
European officials have implemented plans to forge more connections between students in Croatia and other parts of the continent.
Under the proposals, there will be an increase in the number of scholarships for students from the eastern European country to exchange knowledge with academics elsewhere.
"For the academic year 2008-09, a decision was taken under the 'Erasmus Mundus - External Cooperation Window' to enable the exchange of up to 500 undergraduate and graduate students, doctoral and post-doctoral candidates and academic staff between the western Balkan region and the EU member states," explained a statement from the European Union.
Around 10 million (£7.65 million) has been allocated to support the activities, which will encourage an even greater number of European residents to explore the affordable holiday and accommodation opportunities lying across the Adriatic.
In another recent coup for Croatia, a group of university students from the US organised a winter trip to the country in an attempt to learn about its rapid economic development.
The University of Illinois academics visited three cities during the course of their trip, including a five-day sojourn at JJ Strossmayer University in the eastern city of Osijek.
