Croatia travel: Officials promote language of integration

As the interest in Croatia travel continues to surge - alongside the number of independent globe-trekkers who favour renting an apartment or villa - European officials have laid out plans to promote cultural integration.
In a report on minority languages in Croatia, the Council of Europe advised that awareness and tolerance be encouraged among the country's growing 'melting pot' of inhabitants and visitors.
"On the basis of this report, the committee of ministers calls on Croatia to promote awareness and tolerance for minority languages as an integral part of Croatia's cultural heritage in education and in the media," they stated.
Also recommended is the introduction of Slovak, Ruthenian and Ukrainian teaching in the nation's secondary schools, as well as a more "significant presence" for minority languages on public television and regional radio stations in Croatia.
In another recent indicator of the eastern European hotspot's growing international presence, a group of university students from the US graced Croatia's small screen as a result of their enterprising efforts in the country.
The University of Illinois academics had organised a winter trip to Strossmayer University in the eastern city of Osijek as part of efforts to learn about Croatia's economic development.
