23 June 2008
Croatia remains on track to join the European Union, the country's prime minister, Ivo Sanader, has said.
MonstersandCritics.com said his comments came after French President Nicolas Sarkozy said the EU would not increase in size without the Lisbon Treaty, which has been rejected by Irish voters.
The country is next in the queue to join the EU, with Macedonia and Turkey following behind.
The site reports Mr Sanader said "there is a solution for Croatia" at a meeting in Zagreb , although he did not expand further on the assertion.
Croatia has been going through the process of attempting to join the EU for some time and hopes to achieve its goal in 2010.
Bloomberg recently reported EU delays threaten the pace of foreign investment and economic growth in the Balkans, with other countries keen to join at a later date.
Quoted by Bloomberg, Finnish president Tarja Halonen said "enlargement will go as we say" despite the ongoing problems facing the new governing treaty rejected by Ireland.
