Croatian artist inspired by Japanese cartoons

Nikolina Ivezic has been a huge hit in Croatia with her latest exhibition of neo pop-art paintings inspired by traditional Japanese Manga cartoons.
Her images are described as distinctly Croatian but the classically trained painter has created unique fusion works based on the Japanese comic book drawings, which have a long history in Japanese art.
Ms Ivezic calls her works "Cro-Mangas". She has given the beautiful figures in the paintings traditional Croatian names and says they have Croatian identities.
"I wanted to merge the 'un-mergeable' Japanese drawings and Croatian traditional names," she said.
The paintings are currently hung in a small Zagreb gallery run by Ana Schaub, who commented that all sorts of people are snapping up the paintings.
"There's always something happening around Nina's paintings," she commented.
The award-winning artist was born in Zagreb in 1970, where she attended the school for applied art and design. She has exhibited nationally and abroad.
