Croatian cities a 'delight' for travellers

The walled city of Dubrovnik and the island destination of Korcula – also guarded by ancient stone walls – have been branded a "delightful" choice for travellers.
US travel pundit Eleanor Berman singled out the Croatian regions' "rare beauty" and recommended a walk along the top of Dubrovnik's walls for an "unforgettable stroll".
Writing in the Denver Post, she explained that the latter offers views of the city's red-tiled roofs, spires and "blue sea beyond".
Describing Korcula, she said: "Within the walls is a warren of narrow, stone-paved lanes and small squares lined with churches, homes and shops.
"One building now under restoration is the house some historians believe belonged to the explorer Marco Polo… the high point of Korcula, literally, is the wall circling the old town, where the favourite activity is relaxing in one of the cafes that face out to sea."
Ms Berman went on to praise Hvar, "the lavender island" which threatens to overtake the French Riviera as a hotspot for young jet-setters.
Previous travel experts to sample Croatia's delights have pointed out that following the country's coastal road from Dubrovnik ultimately leads to Trieste, offering a colourful Italian conclusion to a one-in-a-million road trip.
