Croatian coach 'luckier in love than in football'
26 June 2008
The Croatian football team may have unfortunately lost on penalties in the quarter-finals of the European Championships but it appears their coach has been luckier in love.
Rumours are rife in the country that Slaven Bilic, "the most wanted single man in Croatia", has been dating a gynaecologist who works in Sibenik hospital beside his mother, balkaninsight.com reports.
It is believed Nelka Tomic has been in a relationship with the international football manager for a year, and she is reportedly unperturbed by the rumours.
Bilic has rarely been seen in the company of women in public since his divorce, according to the website, which has led to much speculation in the Croatian tabloid press.
Davor Gavran, spokesman for the Croatian Football Federation, told reporters it made "no sense to comment or to deny such speculations" when questioned.
Meanwhile, Bilic has revealed to the BBC's Football Focus programme that he was close to resigning from the national team job and quitting football management altogether following Croatia's penalty shootout exit to Turkey.
