Croatian director honoured as Pula festival finishes

Local filmmaker Arsen Anton Ostojic picked up the best director award at the Pula Film Festival on Saturday.

Ostojic won the trophy for No One's Son, which also received a further five awards as the Croatian event came to an end, reports Variety.

The jury at the festival, which allowed visitors to the Adriatic city to watch a host of new movies in the open air, named Ostojic's work best film and handed the top actor gong to its leading man Alen Liveric.

No One's Son's music, special effects and sound were also recognised by the judges.

In the festival's international category, Mike Leigh was named best director for Happy Go Lucky and Claude Chabrol's The Girl Cut in Two picked up the Golden Arena honour.

Those heading to Croatia for the first weekend of August will have the opportunity to experience a very different kind of festival - the Sepomaia Viva.

Staged at an archaeological site close to Umag, the event is a celebration of ancient times and features gladiators, legionnaires and antique crafts.
