Croatian flick scoops top Hollywood gong

Croatia's entry for this year's Palm Springs International Film Festival has scooped a top prize.
At a Californian ceremony this week, Ognjen Svilicic's feature was handed the FIPRESCI gong for best foreign language film.
Held on the same night at the much-publicised Golden Globes bash, the 19th annual Palm Springs event screened 212 flicks from 66 countries, including 55 out of the 63 foreign entries for this year's Oscars.
Svilicic's Armin one was of the latter, lauded by the jury for its sensitive portrayal of a father-son relationship.
"With record-breaking attendance, a star-studded gala that featured appearances by talents like Daniel Day-Lewis, Sean Penn and Halle Berry and an ecstatic audience response to the film line-up, this year's festival surpassed our already high expectations for the event," remarked festival director Darryl MacDonald.
"It sets a perfect stage for next year's 20th anniversary edition of the event," he added.
An intimate, poignant drama, Armin starts off in a small-town setting and deals with the father and son's attempt to maintain their dignity when they arrive in a big city and confront an onslaught of unexpected opportunities.
