Croatian island up for sale

Half of an island in Croatia has been put up for sale for $15.8 million (£7.9 million), according to the Slobodna Dalmacija Daily.

Two houses are included with the island which is located south of the city of Zadar and is in the Kornati region.

In the Kornati National Park, real estate which is being sold must be offered to the state first but after the government did not want to buy it, the half-island was put on general sale.

Buyers not keen on the 59-hectare site on Pikera can afford to look around with 20 other islands also available to buy.

George Bernard Shaw, once said of the Kornati region: "On the last day of the Creation God desired to crown His work and thus created Kornati Islands out of tears, stars and breath."

Kornati Islands are located in Dalmatia, where there are plenty of Croatian villas on offer for people who can't afford to buy their own island.
