Croatian music star takes guitar know-how across the pond
06 February 2008
A young Croatian guitarist has described her quest to conquer the music industry across the pond.
Baltimore resident Ana Vidovic became the youngest-ever student to enter Zagreb's Music Academy when she was 14.
Until that age, the prodigy now in her mid-20s was taught by her brother Viktor, a professor at the School of Music in Karlovac.
Ana told the Charleston Daily Mail that moving from Croatia to the US in 2001 was a "huge step".
"There are a lot of differences culturally - I didn't speak much English before. Mostly I learned it here - I just had to learn," she said.
According to the talented performer, she first picked up a guitar at the age of five, then spent a few years practising before she decided to hit the US and do Croatia proud.
This weekend sees the star, who has already performed a series of solo concerts, go on stage with the prestigious West Virginia Symphony.
Earlier this year, Croatia marked another success in the entertainment world as its entry to the Palm Springs International Film Festival scooped the FIPRESCI prize for Best Foreign Language feature.
