Croatian theatre star to air on BBC

An up-and-coming Croatian playwright is taking her latest work to the BBC's airwaves.

Tena Stivicic's Fragile was originally performed at the Arcola in London, and has now been adapted by the eastern European wordsmith for a 60-minute Radio 4 slot, according to The Stage.

Frank Stirling, one of the prospective show's producers, told the publication that Ms Stivicic is one of the most exciting playwrights he has encountered "in a very long time".

"We heard of Fragile as a stage play, read the script and we were blown away by it. Tena is particularly big news in Croatia, but Fragile was the first play she has written in English," he explained.

Tena, who was born in Zagreb, has won several awards for her work at Croatian theatre festivals.

Fragile depicts the story of an aspiring young actress paving her way through the contemporary drama world.

Another Zagreb native, Ana Vidovic, recently told the press about her quest to conquer the US music industry.

The prodigy, who became the youngest-ever student to enter Zagreb's Music Academy when she was 14, moved from Croatia to the US in 2001 and has since appeared on stage with the prestigious West Virginia Symphony.ADNFCR-1197-ID-18476013-ADNFCR
