Croatians choose to 'holiday at home'
11 June 2008
Croatians typically holiday at home, with now being the perfect time to do so as the summer heat begins to soar, it is said.
The Southeast European Times reports the temperatures in Croatia and its surrounding countries are currently experiencing "heat waves and blazing sunlight" and a recent survey shows the Croats love their country so much they choose to holiday there.
A tourist agency in the country, Generalturist, said Croatia's natives tend to make their decision last minute about where to vacate, but only 16 per cent choose to go abroad, according to the website.
Most spend their summer on the 378 milelong Black Sea coast which has 70 beaches to choose from, with Golden Sands and Sunny Beach being the most popular.
It is not just the natives that love to holiday in their country, as Croatia received 8.65 million tourists in 2006, beating India, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia, according to World Tourism Organisation figures, reported by the Economic Times.
