Croatia's Nato accession 'to be formalised'
07 July 2008
Croatia's political invitation to Nato is set to be formalised in Brussels later this week, it has been revealed.
Members are set to sign "key protocols" which will take the country a step closer to joining Nato, TopNews.in reports.
According to the website, the protocols will then have to be ratified by all 26 Nato members, while Croatia will need to sign its adherence to the North Atlantic Treaty.
Croatia will then become full members of Nato once the process is complete which is it is said could take around a year.
However, TopNews.in reports Nato leaders are hopeful the arrangement can be in place ahead of its 60th anniversary summit due to be held in Strasbourg, France and Kehl, Germany in April next year.
Meanwhile, Damir Polanec has said becoming a member of Nato could have positive economic benefits for Croatia.
The deputy prime minister told Reuters investors will feel more secure in the country once it joins the alliance.
