Croatia's 'ritziest resort' a travel must
25 January 2008
Any trip to Croatia should involve a visit to the islands of Hvar and Korcula, according to one travel expert.
Writing in the New Zealand Herald, holiday advisor Dr Latitude singled out Hvar, which has been dubbed "the new St Tropez" for its beautiful beaches and natural delights.
The "doctor" suggested that hiring a car and stopping off at the islands perhaps en route from Dubrovnik to the north of the country - would provide a wealth of culture and picturesque experiences for the discerning traveller.
"Your Croatian itinerary should include stops at the beautiful Hvar and Korcula islands, where medieval towns, dense forests, hidden coves, secluded beaches, vineyards and olive groves await you," he advised.
He continued: "Then there's the lovely Mljet Island, which is great for a spot of hiking or cycling", pointing out that car ferries leave from both Split and Dubrovnik.
Dr Latitude also highlighted that following Croatia's coastal road from Dubrovnik to its conclusion would lead adventure-seekers to Trieste, should their curiosity be sparked by Italy's array of tourist interests.
Britain's own Sunday Times described Hvar as "the ritziest resort in the Adriatic" in its compilation of the top 100 summer holidays for this year.
