Davor Suker honoured as Croatia's best

Former Croatia striker Davor Suker has been named the country's best football player of the past 50 years.

Uefa have handed the honour to the 39-year-old in light of the great successes he enjoyed during his playing days.

In a career that spanned 19 years, Suker played for a number of big clubs, including Real Madrid, Arsenal and Dinamo Zagreb.

During his time at Madrid, he won the Primera League and the Champions League before heading off to the 1998 World Cup in France with Croatia.

It was during this tournament that Suker really announced himself as a true footballing great, becoming the top scorer at the tournament with six goals in seven games and leading Croatia to third place.

After one more year at Madrid, the striker made a shock move to England and joined Arsenal, where he stayed for one season before moving on again to West Ham.
