'Dramatic Dalmatian coast and Dubrovnik recommended to travellers'
11 July 2008
Croatia and Montenegro are two destinations worth visiting in the Balkans, it is claimed.
An article in the Times recommends the Dalmatian coastline as "one of the most dramatic in Europe," referring to Lord Bryon's assertion that Dubrovnik is the "pearl of the Adriatic" and describes Montenegro as being akin to the Mediterranean 30 years ago.
It is suggested both countries benefit from periods of rule under the Romans, the Habsburgs, Byzantines and Venetians, with them all said to have "left their legacies".
The newspaper claims the blend of history in the two nations is "matchless", while the "Mediterranean ambience, with truly stunning natural beauty, refreshingly free from tasteless development is again on the discerning travellers map".
Niko Bulic, director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, told javno.com recently that overall growth in the number of visitors to the country in the first week and half in July was three per cent.
