Dubrovnik offers 'compact and car-free' sightseeing

Dubrovnik and Croatia travel in general rate highly in a new publication across the pond.

Travel guide specialist Fodor's responded to the growth in US cruise trips to eastern Europe by bringing out The Complete Guide to European Cruises, which singles out various regions of Croatia for their appeal.

Editor Douglas Stallings explained to the Associated Press that many Americans are looking for "new places" to explore when it comes to booking regular trips abroad.

"A lot of them have done the Caribbean and done it several times. For their next cruise, they want something different and they're choosing Europe," he confirmed.

Mr Stallings went on to remark that the latest guide offers a wealth of hints and tips for those considering a jaunt across the Adriatic, particularly for people who like to organise their own itineraries, independent of travel agents or tour operators.

Travel experts note that such individuals also tend to forgo traditional hotels and other accommodation in favour of a rented apartment or villa which can be like "a home from home".

In its latest guide, Fodor's describes Dubrovnik, which offers a plethora of sites in its Old Town, as "an area that is compact and car-free."ADNFCR-1197-ID-18488037-ADNFCR
