Dubrovnik 'taking off' as cruise favourite
08 February 2008
Dubrovnik is "taking off" as a cruise destination, according to a US travel expert.
Writing in the Los Angeles Times, Jane Engle pointed out the growing trend for people to sample several cities at once by opting for a cruise, instead of setting out around Europe by themselves.
The latter option often proves more expensive, she observed.
"Cruising can be cheaper than seeing Europe on your own, because you pay most costs up front," the maritime enthusiast explained.
"Instead of visiting one or two cities, you can sample several, such as Rome; Barcelona, Spain; and Dubrovnik, Croatia -which is just taking off," she continued.
Furthermore, she echoed the views of previous cruise specialists by noting the increasing trend for ships to have spa suites, adult-only zones and a plethora of dining options.
With destinations across the Adriatic Sea experiencing a boom in popularity, Ms Engle affirmed that cruise trends are moving away from the Caribbean in favour of the Mediterranean.
Croatia's coast - Eastern Europe's rival to the French Riviera was singled out as a tourism "must" in Cruise Critic's recent guide to the hottest destinations this year.
