04 June 2008
Some of the world's best sailors are currently in Croatia for the 2008 International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Eastern Hemisphere Championship.
Based at Labud Yachting Club on the Dalmatian coast near Split, 11 of the 15 teams taking place in this year's Olympic Games are in the country, according to the ISAF website.
Past and present world, eastern and western hemisphere, European and North American champions are among the competitors on the peninsula.
They will be able to enjoy "the Mediterranean climate, superb sailing conditions, world class competition and Croatian hospitality" while in the area, the ISAF states.
It has been claimed the event is a "special treat" for Labud club, which celebrates its 85th anniversary this year.
Registration, measurement and weigh-in of all the vessels in the regatta has taken place over the past few days.
The competitive action is now set to begin following a practice race and opening ceremony at the club last night.
