Food and drink growth boosts Croatia's burgeoning economy
12 March 2008
Croatia's burgeoning economic growth has spread to the country's food and drink industry, it has emerged.
In a new report from retail analyst Research and Markets, beer giant Carlsberg Croatia was just one of the firms singled out for its rising success among customers across the Adriatic.
The analyst's 'Croatia Food & Drink Report' for the first quarter of this year noted that the eastern European country now has the opportunity to come into its own in the face of foreign competition and rising production costs.
"Rising disposable income and further integration into European trading and marketing networks will stimulate the development of both values and volumes of the food and drink segments," continued Research and Markets' report.
It pointed out that popular Slovenian retailer Mercator continues its expansion in Croatia, following the formation of a joint venture with local company Plodine and last May's acquisition of Croatian food retailer Presoflex.
The report follows confirmation in recent weeks that Dalmare, an "international-style" shopping centre in the central Dalmatia town of Sibenik, is expected to have a major extension completed by next spring.
Observers have suggested that Dalmatia holiday and villa enthusiasts will be "spoilt for retail choice" if the country's development continues at its current pace.
