'Football crazy Croatia gears up for quarter-finals'

Croatia has gone "football crazy" ahead of this evening's European Championship quarter-final against Turkey, it has been claimed.

Women are having their nails painted in the red and white of the country's flag and a boutique in Zagreb has taken to selling chequered tuxedos in the style of the nation's football jerseys, reports the Associated Press.

School children and office workers are wearing replicas of the team's shirts and small flags adorn cars passing through city streets, according to the news provider.

Olgica Ivic Grizjeli, a Croatian reporter, wrote in the Slobodna Dalmacija that she feels shame if she leaves the house without a checked shirt on and added: "Everyone is in red and white."

The news provider reports there are no longer tickets for tonight's clash in Vienna available and one fan commented he would give his soul to attend the match.

Most Croatians will have to make do with watching the match in their home country.

Celebrations will be expected in Zagreb should the football team triumph again, following the firecrackers and rockets of Tuesday night after Ivan Klasnic scored the winner against Poland.
