Foreign minister to visit Slovenia
03 July 2008
The Croatian minister of foreign affairs, Gordan Jandrokovic, will make an official visit to Slovenia to improve relations between the two countries.
It will also help to improve the personal relationship with Dmitrij Rupel, the Slovenian foreign minister.
Mr Rupel said he wanted Croatia to become a member of the European Union (EU) as soon as possible and insisted that Slovenia had an interest in Croatia's EU status.
He also said it was important to solve the problems with borders shared by Slovenia and Croatia.
The Slovenian minister also denounced critics that suggested his country had slowed down Croatia integration into the EU during the first half of the year.
Mr Rupel also felt that Slovenia's presidency of the EU had opened up new opportunities for eastern European countries.
He stated the Balkan region had never been more stable and all the countries in the region were getting closer to the EU.
Croatia is currently doing better in its negotiations to join the EU, according to the country's head negotiator, Vladimir Drobnjak.
