'Friendly' Sipan is pick of the islands

Sipan, an island in Dalmatia, has been described as a friendly place and the pick of the holidaying options in the region.

The island is an hour's boat journey from Dubrovnik which is the much busier island and has up to nine cruise ships visit there every day.

According to Steve Latham, who owns a villa there, Sipan is the much more peaceful option out of the islands.

Mr Latham told the Telegraph: "Sipan has a quality of friendliness and independence. It's a small island, just two villages, but it still has a strong sense of its own identity."

The World Travel and Tourism Council has predicted that Croatia will be one of the five fastest growing holiday destinations over next decade and people are rushing to visit, staying in hotels, apartments and Croatian villas.

Croatia is also expected to become a member of the EU in 2011, something which would further boost visitors to the country.
