Good food and good music: Croatia holiday highlights
04 April 2008
The islands of Korcula and Hvar offer travellers an abundance of "stunning" attractions, according to one intrepid Adriatic explorer.
Writing in South Africa's Independent Online, Wayne Allen-White described the lasting impression left on him by Korcula, where he experienced a typical Croatian "meal with a difference" - risotto with cuttlefish ink.
"The next day it was onto Hvar, stopping along the coast to dive into the blue water," he mused.
Mr Allen-White explained that Hvar - known to many as 'the new St Tropez' - is home to Europe's oldest community theatre, a Renaissance cathedral and "other interesting historical monuments".
"It was here that we had the most fun during our visit, with lots of good music, good food and good beer," he observed.
During his Croatia holiday, the travel enthusiast also took in Split - stopping off at popular beach Zlatni Rat for a swim - and capital city Zagreb.
Many 'island-hoppers' keen to cover as much of Croatia as they can during their villa-based trip start out from Split, where a range of small boats and large ferries sail to the country's large number of intriguing island getaways.
