Holiday Croatia: A 'hot ticket', say experts
04 March 2008
Eastern European destinations like Croatia are a "hot ticket" for frequent travellers, it has been claimed.
According to US publication Forbes, traditional luxury hotspots such as St Tropez, Ibiza and Santorini are increasingly passed over by keen culture-seekers with their finger on the touristic pulse.
"Eastern Europe is a hot ticket - it's virtually uncharted territory for the luxury traveller," confirmed Forbes.
It went on to outline some of the attractions of Croatia travel for the more independent-minded globe-trekker, including the variety of accommodation such as "home-from-home" villas and apartments.
Furthermore, Dubrovnik was singled out as a "popular getaway" for high-profile visitors such as Hollywood stars Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor in the 1960s.
Such is the growing stature of Croatia among those in the holiday know that the island of Hvar has even been dubbed "the new St Tropez" on account of its beautiful beaches and natural delights.
It is visited by many independent travellers who opt to rent an apartment or villa, hire a car and take off on their own unique adventure.
